What are Legionella?
In short: Legionella are bacteria that occur naturally in water. They become problematic when they multiply rapidly in artificial water systems – such as showers, air conditioners, or whirlpools – at temperatures between 25°C and 45°C. If these bacteria are inhaled via fine water droplets (aerosols), they can cause severe pneumonia, known as Legionnaires’ disease.
For a detailed overview of the biological background and risks, we recommend our comprehensive article: What are Legionella and how do they form?
The invisible danger: Biofilm in the pipes
Many hotels attempt to combat Legionella bacteria through short-term thermal disinfection (heating the water to over 60°C). The problem: Legionella bacteria often hide in so-called biofilms. These slimy layers on the inner walls of the pipes serve as a protective shield for the bacteria against heat and conventional methods. As soon as the temperature drops, they multiply again – a cycle that is not only risky but also expensive due to the high energy consumption.
Our Path to Long-Term Water Hygiene
-
We rely on a holistic service concept to keep your water system permanently safe and legionella-free. Our approach is structured:
1. Status Quo Analysis (Water Samples):
The first step is always a professional assessment. We take expert water samples at various sampling points in your hotel.
2. Testing in the Partner Laboratory:
These samples are microbiologically tested by our specialized partner laboratory, Hydrolab AG. This provides you with certainty about the actual bacterial contamination in under 48 hours.
3. Joint Solution Consultation:
Based on the laboratory results, we will analyze the weaknesses in your system together with you (e.g., dead legs or insufficient circulation).
4. Implementation of a Sustainable Solution:
Instead of addressing symptoms only once, we rely on continuous water disinfection with Hydroliq Water Disinfection Plus. Our solution breaks down existing biofilms and reliably prevents their reformation – without altering the taste of the water or damaging the pipes.
Your Advantage: Safety and Cost-Effectiveness
By using Hydroliq, hotels can often lower the high supply temperatures in their hot water systems, leading to a significant reduction in energy costs. At the same time, labor-intensive flushing protocols are largely eliminated. Protect your guests and your reputation with water hygiene that delivers on its promises.
